Family Fun day at the Victoria, Hitchin
Come and join us for a family fun day at the Victoria, Hitchin on Monday 29th August. The bank holiday event will include balloon modellers, magic shows, a bouncy castle and a BBQ. For music lovers there will be acoustic acts in the Vic Barn.

Lavender Fields Songwriting Project
Seven young disabled people who live at No. 1 Lavender Fields, a residential service in Hitchin run by the charity Leonard Cheshire Disability, will take to the stage at this year's Rhythms of the World Festival.

Help needed preparing the Priory grounds
Rhythms of the World is fast approaching. We need some help to prepare the Priory grounds for the festival. There are hedges to cut back, trees to check and generally get the place ready for the biggest event of the summer.

Bancroft art work to be unveiled on Saturday July 2
A disused public toilet block in Bancroft, Hitchin, has been transformed into a bright and beautiful artwork thanks to a design competition run by Rhythms of the World, Hitchin BID and Pots of Art.

The garden of the Rusty Gun pub in St Ippolyts provided the perfect setting for the first of two summer evening performances of acoustic music, presented by Rhythms of the World (ROTW) in the lead up to the 20th festival.

Rhythms success at NHDC Hearing
Rhythms of the World was granted a licence variation to accommodate the sound generated by the 140+ acts who perform at the festival and the 30,000 or more people who attend it. The sound limit has now increased by 10dB to 75dB.

Bayou Seco music workshops and free concert
Update 7th June 2011 - Rhythms of the World festival favourites Bayou Seco, from New Mexico, brought their distinctive music style to Ickleford Primary School and a free concert at the Sun Hotel in Hitchin on Thursday 26 May as part of the festival's Outreach programme.

Rhythms of the World sells out London show
Rhythms of the World took over Club Fandango at the Bull & Gate in Kentish Town last Friday to showcase some of our home-grown local talent and to raise awareness of the festival. The night was a massive success, both for the artists and the festival; in excess of 200 people attended the evening making it a sell out event.

Rhythms of the World 20th festival
2011 marks a real milestone for Rhythms of the World (ROTW): this year will see the charity hosting its 20th world music festival at Hitchin Priory on July 9 and 10. The festival started as a concert to raise money for Oxfam and has grown to become one of the largest celebrations of world music and arts in the UK. This award-winning event is now run by the local community and is completely organised by volunteers. Rhythms of the World 2011 will be a huge community celebration of both local and world culture and organisers are sure it will be the best festival yet.

On 13th November we are holding a free music party to celebrate the life of stalwart volunteer Faith Russell, formerly Houbert, who sadly passed away in August. The free Party for Faith at Hitchin's Club 85 will feature three bands that have played at the festival, including one of Faith's favourites

Festival countdown begins with a bang
Rhythms of the World funded Samba Celebration with Toque Tambor hosted by Leonard Cheshire Disability. A Samba Celebration on Saturday 17th July funded by Rhythms of the World was hosted by Leonard Cheshire Disability who provide specialist residential care for 9 disabled young people aged 16-25.
