Rhythms of the World funded Samba Celebration with Toque Tambor hosted by Leonard Cheshire Disability. A Samba Celebration on Saturday 17th July funded by Rhythms of the World was hosted by Leonard Cheshire Disability who provide specialist residential care for 9 disabled young people aged 16-25.

A whole day of music making at No. 1 Lavender Fields in Hitchin was enjoyed by all with the sounds of carnival from Rio.  Professional percussionist JP Courtney led a samba drumming workshop for residents and their support workers in the morning alongside Toque Tambor samba band members from the local community.  30 drummers from Toque Tambor and two special guest musicians from Brazil joined them for the afternoon performance with residents and staff from No.1 Lavender Fields taking part in the finale with Toque Tambor.

No. 1 Lavender Fields was filled with the sounds of samba and there was a great party atmosphere supported by volunteers.  Becks Woodhams, Senior Support Worker, said:

“Our young people really enjoyed learning to play the instruments and being part of the performance with Toque Tambor was a special opportunity for them.  At  Lavender Fields in  Hitchin  we  have  a  fantastic  group  of  volunteers.  They  make  it  possible  for  our  Service  Users  to  be  involved  in  a  variety  of  activities ”.
