The Community Art project is a colourful and vibrant part of the festival which involves individuals and groups from the local community. Launched in 2010, ‘Artists in Residence’ is an opportunity for four artists to create a piece of artwork, inspired by the ethos of Rhythms of the World.
Artists are given a dedicated area on the festival site and festival-goers are free to watch the artists in action throughout the weekend. The Rhythms of the World dancing man (above) is just one of the pieces that was created in 2010.
To be selected as one of these artists please submit a proposal as described below.
The proposal should relate to the ethos of Rhythms of the World. Visitors to the festival want to be able to observe the development of a ‘work in progress’ and ‘an artist at work’.
The artist will be allocated a workspace in the park in which to work. The artist will need to take the weather into consideration when selecting materials.
ROTW would like to retain the option to acquire the finished Artwork at the end of the festival to add to the ROTW Art Archive but all work needs to be designed to be taken away or deconstructed at the end of the festival.
If you are interested in becoming one of our Artists in Residence for 2011 please email us your proposal with ‘ROTW - Artists in Residence’ in the subject line.
Please submit your proposal under the following headings:
Deadline for applications is Tuesday May 10th Update 05/05/2011: The submission deadline has been extended to Tuesday May 24th.
If you’re coming to this year’s festival, please take some time to see the artists in action.
