What a festival we had in 2011, with many people describing it as the best Rhythms ever. We’ll have to work extra hard to top it in 2012!

We’re proud to have presented so many outstanding performances across all of the stages and at a bargain price. It’s hard to pick out just a few highlights but everybody has been talking about the following acts.

Raghu Dixit

(Main Stage headline on Saturday)

It’s hard to put this performance into words but from the first song the energy levels from the stage transferred to the audience and continued to build throughout the whole performance creating a very special atmosphere which for many people created the outstanding performance of the whole festival. For Raghu it was his best UK show of the whole Summer and that included Glastonbury.

The Subways

(BBC Introducing Stage headline Sunday)

What a privilege it was to have them play for us, they’ve been waiting for years to come to us and we finally made it happen. Having played many larger festivals across the world this felt like a homecoming and they were on top form, with an energetic and anthemic performance which just had to be witnessed to be believed and the crowd loved every minute.

The Selecter

(Nettlebed headline Saturday)

The 2-Tone legends made their debut performance at the festival and what a show, pulling out hit after hit they had the crowd in full party mood and created one of the largest singalongs of the weekend when they played “On My Radio”.

Moishe’s Bagel

(St Mary’s headline Saturday)

An outstanding band combining the energy and passion of Eastern European folk music with the excitement and soul of improvisation. Playing to a packed tent they created a whole range of musical and emotional experiences and the crowd loved it. They’ll be returning to Hitchin on Saturday 18th February for a Rhythms of the World Presents concert at The Queen Mother Theatre.

Scum of Toytown

(Arcadeclectic headline Saturday)

The re-formed Ska-punksters made an eagerly anticipated return and they didn’t disappoint. Bringing back memories from past years but with a set that was fresh and full of vitality. A great success and everything the crowd had hoped for and more.
