Current Vacancies

For our 25th anniversary year, we are holding a series of smaller events throughout 2016 in and around Hitchin rather than our usual one large festival.

Our huge thanks to all our year-round volunteers and those from our previous festivals. Please get in touch if you would be interested in helping at one of our events for our 25th anniversary.

Rhythms of the World relies on the generous support of more than 800 volunteers to run the charity, the festival and our year-round activities. Below is a selection of our key vacancies for people interested in getting involved throughout the year, as well as the different areas of the organisation requiring volunteers leading up to and over the festival weekend.

If you are interested in any of the following vacancies, or would like to know more, please contact Jo on 07879 487445 or Alison on 07834 363626, or email the Volunteering team.

SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATORS

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated volunteers to assist the Social Media Manager in maintaining a consistent, engaging and informative festival voice across our various social media platforms. We especially need people with a good working knowledge of LinkedIn and Instagram and the role will involve some work with FaceBook and Twitter. Some knowledge of WordPress and Hootsuite would be an advantage but not essential.

FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR

We are looking for someone to coordinate fundraising events outside of the festival weekend, e.g. quiz nights, gigs and pub-based mini-festivals (approx. 6 events a year). As well as creating and organising the events, you will liaise with group heads to ensure that teams are in place to shake buckets and provide information. You should be able to motivate a team of volunteers and possess financial awareness, in order to ensure the events are profit-making.

FINANCE TEAM ASSISTANT

The Finance Team is looking for someone to assist with the managing of funds and budgets. Financial experience/expertise required.

COPYWRITER

We are on the look out for a fantastic volunteer copywriter to join our PR sub team. You will assist with the writing of press releases to help publicise Rhythms of the World in the local and national press. There may be some occasions where you need to interview performers and other people involved with the festival.

You will be working as part of the Communications team, reporting to the Head of Comms and PR team sub leader, but also working closely with the social media team and the advertising team to ensure that all comms are aligned.

The role varies in terms of workload. We usually need no more than one press release to be written each week, but there are times where deadlines can be quite tight.

If this is a role that you would be interested in, we would love to hear from you.

Please email [email protected].

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

We are looking for one or more motivated graphic designers with experience of designing for both print and web with good knowledge of Adobe software, specifically InDesign, Photoshop and/or Illustrator. You’ll get involved in designing adverts, publicity materials and merchandise to promote the festival and its activities in the community.

ADVERTISING AND SPONSORSHIP ASSISTANTS

Advertising and Sponsorship form a key part of the revenue of ROTW and help keep ticket prices low. We need a team of people to work with the Advertising and Sponsorship Coordinators to help attract and sign up advertisers and sponsors. This role would be perfect for someone who can only spare a little time but is keen to use sales and influencing skills for the benefit of ROTW.

COMMUNITY ARTS COORDINATOR

We are looking for a new community arts coordinator to encourage and help local community groups to produce artwork and projects for the festival throughout the year. They will also work with our decoration team to display this artwork on site at the festival itself.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Liaising and working with community groups in the local area
  • Helping to design projects for groups to participate in
  • Managing how the pieces will be displayed at the festival
TRUSTEES

We are currently looking for some new Trustees to join our existing Trustees, who are collectively responsible for ensuring good governance of Rhythms of the World (ROTW).

New candidates must be aged 18 years or older; experience as a volunteer of ROTW would be useful but not essential.

The Trustees are legally responsible for ensuring that ROTW complies with Charity and Company Law and must be familiar with ROTW’s Articles of Association. As a group, they oversee financial management and licensing of the charity and events.

ROTW is organised into functional groups covering Communication, Event, Finance, Performance, Art and Volunteers. The Trustees appoint the leader of each group and each Trustee will have year round consultative involvement in one of the groups to work on planning and the resolution of key issues, and to provide the Trustees with an objective view on the progress of that group.

Trustees must also work throughout the weekend of a festival. All Trustees are volunteers and receive no remuneration for their time.
