A grant of £550 from Leeds Building Society is being put to good use, with local community groups creating artwork in the weeks running up to Rhythms of the World 2015 on 20 and 21 June.

One of the main features of the community art project is work with local community groups across North Herts between April and June 2015.

Working with volunteers, this is an opportunity for a range of groups including older people and people with disabilities to decorate a material square called ‘What does Hertfordshire mean to me?’ These will then be collated by the Rhythms of the World community arts team and displayed as one large piece of artwork on the festival site.

“This is one of the biggest community art project we have attempted to date,” said Liz Marfleet, Rhythms of the World Arts group coordinator. “We are very grateful to receive a grant from Leeds Building Society to purchase the art supplies we so desperately need. It will really benefit the groups involved and its great to be able to offer supplies to the people who spend so much time and effort helping to make our festival beautiful!”

Martin Richardson, Leeds Building Society’s General Manager – Business Development and also a trustee of the Leeds Building Society Charitable Foundation said: “We are delighted to make this grant and support the group. We have a local community feel, and understand the issues in the areas around our branches. This is combined with having the national presence of being the UK’s 5th largest building society.”

Applications to volunteer for Rhythms of the World 2015 – including getting involved in the community arts team – are always welcome and there are a number of roles throughout the year, as well as those on the weekend itself, when it’s all hands to the pump. To find out more just click here
